US retail giant Walmart has launched a free two-day shipping service to customers’ homes and stores, with no membership fee.
The service is available on more than two million items and there is no membership fee.
In addition to doing away with membership fees, Walmart has lowered the minimum purchase required for free home deliveries from $50 to $35. Items being shipped to stores continue to have no minimum threshold.
In a statement issued today (31 January), Marc Lore, president and CEO of Walmart U.S. eCommerce, said: “Two-day free shipping is the first of many moves we will be making to enhance the customer experience and accelerate growth.”
Lore also echoed the views of many e-commerce commentators when he added: “In today’s world of e-commerce, two-day free shipping is table stakes. It no longer makes sense to charge for it.”
In addition to offering two-day shipping to stores, Walmart continues to offer same-day store Pickup on many items. Pickup is currently available at more than 4,600 stores.
Walmart also continues to offer Online Grocery Pickup at more than 600 locations across the US, and the company with plans to expand the service in the coming year.
